So where do we start ?

Two things started me on this path.... Firstly, my continued dismay with the struggle to see gender diversity in executive roles in the Financial Services sector – particularly Insurance. Many women, however very few reaching CEO, direct CEO reporting line or responsibility for running a significant business. We keep talking about it however what has to change to make it a reality for the next generations coming through? Secondly, the overwhelming supply of information on everything! What should you be doing to be successful and how you should spend your time from email management, to meditation, to what you should be wearing. In addition to working on "you", trying to sort through your own Industry specific information and macro topics from many sources is exhausting and if you are like me, a lot of it can end up in the “I will read it later” basket which you will possibly not get to. There are a number of fundamental business disciplines and areas that are necessary to lead a business division or organisation. These have not really changed other than how we may approach them, the information and tools available to analyse and the method in which information is delivered. There is a lot to be said for learning from “trial and error” and over the years I learnt the majority of what I know through observing business leaders and experience in various roles. In my formative career years, we did not have all of this great online information accessible – we did not even have email until I was in my thirties!. My focus and what I will share with you are all of those things I wish I had of known earlier about these key business disciplines. With a career in Insurance, most detail will be in respect of this sector, however the fundamental’s are applicable most anywhere. You will have also already gleaned that my focus is on helping women on their career path however the majority of these topics are relevant to anyone, so please read and refer my blog as you see fit. Finally, to create as logical path as possible, I will link each post to an overarching theme. The topics may jump around a little based on where the conversation goes or a current topic, however let's make a start and see how we go. Until next time Lisa
